Orofacial Pain

Pain that occurs in the head, neck and face area is called “orofacial pain”. This term includes conditions of various types of neuralgia’s like:

  • NICO – Neuralgia Inducting Cavitational Osteonecrosis (teeth or gum pain)
  • Trigeminal Neuralgia (nerve pain)
  • Odontalgia (tooth pain)
  • Any kind of pain that radiates into the head producing headaches or other symptoms

For instance, when a tooth hurts, the source may be muscle-related. When the face experiences stabbing pain, the pain may originate in the nerve. Conditions like Burning Mouth Syndrome, craniofacial pain or eye pain, jaw joint dysfunction (TMJ), migraine-type headaches, and bruxing (jaw clenching) or muscle disorders are classified as orofacial pain. This type of pain needs the care and attention of a doctor who has experience and training in diagnosing and treating the disorders that cause these pains. Dr. Terry Bennett has the experience and training. Let us know if you or someone you know has orofacial pain. Working together with other physicians and therapists, we can determine the cause and help put you on the road to recovery!
