Diagnostics

At the Tulsa TMJ and Orofacial Pain Center, we employ the latest technologies in imaging. Using a Dental 3-D Cone-Beam scan to check the Temporomandibular Joint for pathology while also looking at the patient’s airway to see if it has been compromised is a proven and effective way in diagnosing TMJ dysfunction.

Not only are Dental 3-D Cone Beam scans great at detecting TMJ dysfunction, they are also very effective at analyzing the patient’s airway for Obstructive Sleep Apnea. At Tulsa TMJ and Orofacial Pain Center, we utilize this imaging before and during treatment and combine it with the Oral Airway Dilator to check for airway improvement.

Unlike the traditional CT Scan one might have ordered by their physician, our imaging system is the newest technology designed specifically for the head and neck.

For years, dentists have attempted to diagnose patients with TMJ dysfunction utilizing Panoramic X-Ray technology. However, recent studies involving Panoramic X-Rays have shown that it is impossible to use them to diagnose a TMJ dysfunction because they show a distorted view of the TM Joint. Traditional X-Rays miss much of the pathology needed for a proper diagnosis as well.

If you, or someone you know, suffers from symptoms that may be associated with TMJ dysfunction or Obstructive Sleep Apnea, please call us. We can help!
